I'm not really cut out for 20 in 20s, where the sets of icons look better if they're inter-related. That requires more discipline than I seem to possess. :) It was an interesting exercise but I can't make the colorings on different caps coordinate; I didn't even try. The Guess Who set and the Artist's Choice set are sort of all over the map. For the AC, I made an icon for each of the first 5 seasons. It's fun to watch Daniel mature. Sort of made me wish there had been a dozen required because it would be nice to do all ten seasons and the two movies. :D

He was especially cute the first two seasons with his floppy hair and sense of wonder. He got immeasurably hotter with his cut hair and buff self in later seasons but I still have a certain nostalgia for his Wide Eyed Wonderboy days.

I really love the idea of 20in20s. I'm always looking for something to spark my creativity (it NEEDS juicing constantly) and this seemed perfect. But I'd think of exactly what I wanted, realize I didn't have a cap of the scene or that the caps I had were 3 dpi and so really difficult to work with, and instead ended up trolling my collection for anything Daniel that was in high quality. Or, I'd find a cap of the scene but it really wanted to be something other than Daniel-centric and I was forcing it.

That methodology didn't work with how I work, which is to be inspired by given caps, like in a LIMS. I think I'm more adept at that style of contest -- but it might be a matter of practice. I'd like to try it again for Janet, I think, but I was disappointed to find it less inspiring than I'd hoped. *shrug*

Yay! I have wanted to icon Maternal Instinct for so long but I've never had both good quality caps and/or the skills. I'm still working off of some pixelly caps but they're better resolution so they're easier to coax. I really love that scene where Daniel is cradling the baby. It's sweet but it's a bittersweet as he has to accept that he cannot protect Shifu.

LIMS stands for Last Icon Maker Standing. Every LIMS is run a little differently but the general idea is that makers sign up at the beginning and each week (or whatever time period the group operates on), participants must submit an icon made from a cap or caps provided by the group. Each week, voters provide anonymous feedback on the technical quality of the icons. Each week, participants submitting the icons deemed to be the least technically proficient are "voted off" and eliminated from the competition.

It's a good way to get honest, constructive criticism and it forces you to stretch yourself artistically -- but it isn't for everyone. Except for one person, everyone is going to get eliminated and for some that's an upsetting experience. Definitely something to consider.

I don't know if that appeals to you but SG-1 is extremely lucky to have a lot of well-run communities, LIMS and otherwise. :)

Young Daniel post-lobotomy. Those hands (Chaka likey!) ;) RDA sporting a lightbulb in his 501s. (Where did that picture come from?) Pre-chipmunk cheek Teal'c! My favorite picture of DeeJ in a two part icon. The White Pants of Yum! Teal'c and Cam going badass on some unsuspecting squirrel. Daniel in his Got Milk tee, but unable to recall the line... DeeJ longing to write D <3 J but chickening out because he knows Sam has that M-16 at the ready...

Post-lobotomy? *sporfle* RDA and his crotch bulb are wonderful, no? I have nbo idea where the photo originally came from but I got it (http://i632.photobucket.com/albums/uu48/scifipair20in20/rdanderson_lims/Round%201/1-06%20Leather/RDA-leatherjacket.jpg) from rdanderson_lims. I was thinking of you when I was playing with the two part icon of DeeJ in Upgrades. I'm not happy how it turned out so it might be that I need spend many, many more hours with that photo until I get it right.

Of course, I also need to spend some hours closeted with Jesse and Ben caps, yes? I can handle the Ben (heh heh) and you're handling the Jesse (heh heh), yes?
