Are there any icons I've made that you have questions about? Tutorials for something I made that you would like to see? Questions about how I organize textures, brushes, or the like? Settings in Photoshop? Something else you want me to ramble on about? Please comment here.

I don't know if there's any demand for this but I saw a similar offer over at fangirls_inc and was all, "oh! it's Christmas in July!!" It occurred to me that perhaps others might be interested in a similar offer and just waiting for it to be "okay" to ask. I've tried to be clear that I'm happy to answer any questions I can but maybe an official place to ask questions would start the ball rolling.

*clears throat*...umm..hello my lady...*g*...could you possibly make a tutorial on how to work with textures or brushes...*hangs head*...I can't for the life of me get the ones I attempt to look right..grr...I would greatly appreciate it...*lights huge incence stick in your honor*

Yipes! No working me up to the hard questions, eh? No problem. I'll try to write up something like that. I'll warn you that my brush work is minimal and often absent altogether but I'll do what I can.

Do you have any particular icons in mind? I've looked through the *.psd files that I have (I lost most of my files back when my hard drive died) and I see the following possibilities:

or -- VERY texture heavy style I learned from oxoniensis

-- several textures and a brush

-- texture and a brush

-- textures

-- simple texture use

-- simple texture and a brush

I'm having trouble finding brush use in my icons. I seem to have abandoned it for textures. Most of what I do brush-wise is on masks rather than the image itself these days. I could talk about some favorite brushes from times past, I guess?

Will any of these work for you? Did you have anything specific in mind that I didn't think to put there?

any of those textured ones would be okay..I too hardly use brushes...so...yeah..just a plain how to work with textures tutorial would be fine Mish..thanks!

I saw a texture guide a while back that was helpful to me, here:

I'm thinking I could write out something like that in about the time it takes me to write up and document a single icon and that it would be more helpful for your purposes. The first two wouldn't yield to that treatment (they average about a dozen textures in an icon) but the others would.

BTW, if you were to compare the textures she discusses with my own work, you'll see I hunted down those texture makers and snagged their stuff. :)

You asked about brushes and I wanted to help with those, too, so I'll do what I can but I don't know how useful it will be for your purposes. I do have a few favorite brushes but they are for masking rather than for using on the image itself.

that would work just fine and that link helps me too..thanks again Mish...don't worry about brushes...I'll muddle my way through them its the textures that give me fits...bleh

I haven't forgotten your request, I promise. I'm still planning to do it, but sanami276 just published a guide to how she uses textures. She's like a million times better at this than I am so I wanted to be certain you saw hers since I doubt I'll have a third of the useful content that she managed to put together. ooo..thanks Mish..don't worry I know you've been busy with RL stuff...it's cool..I'll check out her tutorial.
