A long, long time ago I raided the interest lists of the tiny number of people following this comm in hopes of finding inspiration for new icons. I'm nothing if not slow so two years later, here is my first foray into stock icons (and a couple random people). If you've been watching this comm since sometime in early 2008, you might see an interest or three of yours in this group. :)

Hey you! Happy belated birthday. :) I'm glad these work for you. I collected almost 1900 photos to make icons from so I'll be working my way through at a snail's pace but food is going to be a much larger part in the future. Only problem is that working on those make me hungry.

Yay! Calvin and Hobbes was my first "fandom." Time was my first action of the day was to grab the paper and turn to the C&H strip. Love, love, love it.

I'm really glad that you like the one you're using there. It was the first animated icon I'd made since getting a new computer and it took me a LONG time to animate it as my Image Ready had a few stutters working with my new OS. I didn't know if I'd ever get it work. I'm glad it was for a good cause! :)

These are beautiful, Mish. I particularly like the lighthouse and the rocket ones - gorgeous coloring. I'm thrilled to see you're doing some Buffy icons, too, in your previous post. I love the one of Buffy in the sunlight from the final ep; that's one of the nicest ones I've seen of that moment. Also love the ones of Buffy and Spike under the rugs and the b/w of Spike and Angel; great crops and contrast/coloring on those. It's fun to see you tackling lots of different subjects!

I watched all 7 seasons of Buffy with my best-friend-since-3rd-grade between May and December of last year. The writing really grabbed me; I'm sorry that I was so resistant to a "high school show" back when it was airing. I'm such a nit.

Heh. You say that now but will you still say that when I post the next 80 icons from nine different fandoms? Not joking. I have 80 ready to post.

I've kind of burned out on iconning SG-1 (seriously, I think I made about 2,000 SG-1 icons) and I'm looking around for my next obsession. So far, Buffy is winning but there's the fun of Burn Notice and White Collar and Psych and Farscape and Supernatural and...

Hi you! I'm fine; I just have a new job and it's forced a lot of time management changes. I still flit around here, but now it's like that episode from the original Star Trek where some crew members were moving so fast that they sounded like flies while others were moving so slow that they barely appeared to move, you know? (With LJ being like the zipping, hyperspeed fly and me, poking my head in once every few days, being like the sub-light-speed crewperson. To use a really silly analogy, anyway.) I'm so behind that it's hard to do anything but lurk periodically. I feel if I pop up with a random comment out of the blue once every few weeks, I'm just going to startle and perplex people.

Very cool that you've gotten into Buffy! I adored that show and used to read voraciously in the fandom. Do you like to read meta? Tea at the Ford (http://www.teaattheford.net/) has some nifty stuff.

I look forward to seeing your 80 icons from nine different fandoms! You've done so much in SG-1; it's easy to see how you might need to branch out in order get new inspiration. I haven't watched most of those shows you mention, but I'm loving Supernatural. I'm only through mid-season 3, but wow, is it good. I'll gladly pore over your icons as long they don't spoil me. :-)

Congrats on the new job! I hope it's doing something that makes you happy and something that you wanted to do. As someone who has dipped her toes into LJ waters infrequently over the last year or more, I know what you mean about LJ-time and RealLife-time. I've ended up reading just the icon challenge comms to give me inspiration/caps to jump start creativity. I haven't yet started reading in Buffy -- that will come. Thank you for the link; I will go forth and read. I am looking forward to delving into the show on a deeper level.

You've seen more Supernatural than I have! The early stuff in particular is a bit scarier than I can typically handle but Season 5 has themes that I'm totally fine with so I've been watching and catching up on back-episodes when the sun's up. ;) I don't think my icons will spoil anyone. I don't know the show well enough (yet) to do that.

No pardon necessary. I agree with you; this representation is far more consistent with the iconography of Nefertiti than Hatshepsut. I was suspicious of the identification as Hetshupsut (I have no idea what game it's from) but I had snagged "Hatshepsut" from somebody's interests and was looking for something that wasn't a statue.

I have a bunch of pics now of her temple at Deir el-Bahri that I'll play with but at the time I was making those -- er, at least a year ago? -- I had just the statuary and the shot from a video game. :)

:( I get losing momentum when you drift out of a visual fandom; I've spent the past year doing almost no icon-making. I hope a fandom will grab you soon because I really miss seeing your icons. I tried my hand recently at QaF icons (I blame it on withdrawal; I wouldn't have needed to if you were still iconning) and I have 100 times more respect than before for your icons. I had a handful of questionable quality caps but those colors are damned difficult. No, they're impossible. One of these days I'll have to track down some better quality caps and see if that helps but it seems to be a QaF style to be outside the color box.

Eh, making the screencaps (and finding the right one for the icons) was basically 80% of my ico-making job. It was so damn time consuming that I honestly don't think I'll be able to get *that* crazy again... ;-)

I don't think I could ever make an icon from someone else's screencap and that's why I don't know if I'll ever find the time (and passion) to work on icons again. *sigh*

Whereas I can't imagine using the caps that I make! I've tried capping and I end up with annoyingly blurry cap after annoyingly blurry cap. *stares at your icon* You sincerely underestimate the importance of your cropping and other mad skillz. I'm very sorry that you're burned out on making icons but I do understand it.

Hey you! I didn't intend 50 to be creepy - heh, being an archaeologist who specialized in bones changes one's perspective, I suppose - but now that you've said it I can see it. I love the detailed feedback; thank you.

It's interesting that my coloring style holds even in a change to stock. I know I'm partial to warm coloring but I was trying push myself to explore new colorings/composition/styles. Obviously, I still have a ways to go to move beyond my comfort zone, eh? *g*

It will surprise no one, I suppose, to know that my house is painted in shades of yellow, almond, and a bit of red in my dining room, eh?
