#3 is kind of intense.

*sigh* Yeah. Some day I need to make more Dark Angel icons because I'm not so fond of my style from this time period. #3 is Max and she was intense so I guess it captured her reasonably well.

#28 is gorgeous! I love the coloring. It looks like a graphic novel. How did you do that (asks the newbie who's always looking for tips to improve)?

I've been looking for the *.psd file because it has been so many years since I made that; I've forgotten how I did it. Alas, it's one of the files I lost when I had a hard drive crash something like 3 years ago. I'm really sorry. If you can find something I made in the last couple of years that you want to know about, I'd be happy to share any tips or knowledge that I have.

I do know that it wasn't anything special. I hadn't been making icons for very long at that point so it would have been pretty straight forward: crop, sharpen, smooth, use a skin toned gradient by oxoniensis, and probably some selective coloring. Most of that gorgeous coloring is in the original promo pic, I think.

Absolutely, we all start somewhere. If I can be of any help, please let me know because I"m happy to help any way that I can.

The gradient used as a "gradient map" and set to soft light was something I did on every icon for YEARS. It's a nice, easy way to get a little extra contrast and to sometimes correct coloring (a little).
