205 icons, total

Notes: Continuing from my last post, I'm experimenting with color and now looking, tentatively, into a more interesting composition. I've cropped Castiel's face in just about every way it can be so continuing on as usual is pointless. I'm still searching for a different style that works for me. I might have made too many icons from the new Misha photo and too manyJensen Ben icons from Dark Angel. Oops?
Months ago I promised
immlass that I'd make her a bunch of icons from Inception, with particular attention paid to Cillian Murphy for her pb use. I'm finally starting to fill that promise. However, I get bored when iconning the same face over and over without break so I started getting creative with textures and colors on a couple. I've included the standard version from before I started messing with it for
immlass as judging by other pb icons, the point isn't to be arty but to have a clear emotion.
Pride & Prejudice. I'm on the third disc but I find this part of the story depressing and I couldn't stand it any longer. I jumped ahead to some happier times so this is just a small, motley collection.

Date: 2011-06-06 09:20 pm (UTC)well, I can tell you this if it makes you feel better. You are never "old news" to me, rather your style inspired me a new Jared!icon this afternoon. You'll see. ;D You are a constant source of inspiration hun! :)

Date: 2011-06-06 11:06 pm (UTC)OMG - I inspired you? That is amazing news and makes me happy beyond belief. I can hardly wait to see it! That's one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. When I was going through all of your icons from the past year, I realized how much I really enjoy your minimalist style. I love it when a maker gets to the heart of a cap. I'd love to learn that skill.

Date: 2011-06-07 10:36 am (UTC)I have always loved the way you use the shades of the blue/cyan together with the yellow's ones. So basically I decided to give it a go with this cute pic of Jared I wanted to use. I don't know how much I managed to "achieve" your coloring but I'm happy with my result which is the important thing I guess. So thanks! :*
ahahahah no skills at all hun. I basically just like simple stuff and hate the original backgrounds so I remove them. XD LOL

Date: 2011-06-07 12:55 pm (UTC)You say no skills but I would disagree. Successful minimalism requires a skill that I don't necessarily have but want to develop. Funny you mention the backgrounds. Time was that as a matter of course removed every single background. Then I saw some brilliant scene icons that used the background and thought, "I need to learn how to use a scene." And now I'm sitting here thinking that perhaps that's a key to liking my SPN icons more: removing the backgrounds. They're almost always an ugly green or black anyway.
Thanks for sparking interesting thoughts. THIS is why I love talking to other makers. ♥

Date: 2011-06-07 01:07 pm (UTC)LOL, I'm on the same pattern. I remove every background but I see all around some great scene icons and I'm like "maybe the backgrounds aren't that ugly after all". Honestly I think it's a bit convinient for me to remove them. it's easier to build up the icon you have on your mind when you starts from a blank canvas (except for the character, of course) but plasming the original scene into something else? that's the real deal and I think I have been trying to avoid that because I'm not happy with the results.
I love some of my background-less icons but I think I have to learn to make scene icons too. So that I can really choose one technique or the other every time.
Ugly green? What are you talking about? Your green is shiny, warm and it's actually another color that I'm like "how did she get that?". And I don't see all that much black at all in your icons. :)
it's priceless indeed. it makes you grow. ;)

Date: 2011-06-07 06:49 pm (UTC)Ugly greens:
It does and it's lovely to talk to people who know what you're talking about! ♥

Date: 2011-06-07 07:12 pm (UTC)oh come on, not fair. You chose these as examples but I could point out others to prove my point.
And anyway, ugly green or not, I love the third one. ;)
So true! :*

Date: 2011-06-07 07:31 pm (UTC)Think how much better the third one would be with a real background rather than one I chose to fade to black because that green was so "off."
(no subject)
Date: 2011-06-07 07:44 pm (UTC)Yeah, maybe in some cases you have to but as for your choice in that third icon? I think you made the right one. A "real" background could have ruined everything, by pulling Sam and his action out of the contest and the power of the moment. But that fading to dark actually put enphasis on Sam'action and actually gives you an idea of the good/evil battle is going on there.
and well, maybe I'm overanalyzing an icon but it's my way to say that in my opinion you made the right choice. ;)
